John,
From Tech Repair CD:
MAGNAVOX \27TS54C101\DEAD\Black screen except flicker of light at edges
& could faintly see that vertical was collapsed to
about 2 at bottom of screen\with faint video visible in pix. After removing
chassis-set failed to start & HV would kick to
12kv\27B800-Manual: 7562\IC500 (4835-209-88531)(TDA9302H)\R420 (1ohm-½w)
4835-116-57109\R420/D409 Located next to IHVT\Replace the
IC first as resistor will immediately burn\\\\\

I know symptom is not exactly the same...but still applies.

Subject: [TechAssist] Magnavox 27TS54C101 Repeat Vertical failure

Does anyone know why this unit might have a repeat failure of the vertical? I
replaced the output, and D409 and R420. I also
replaced IC346. Set came up fine on the bench, I let it run for 25 mins.
Checked the temp on all components, no problems. I put the
cover back on and fired it up for burn-in, and the vertical went nuts. I have
gone over the entire board with a magnifying glass and
a DMM there are no breaks or bridges causing this. I only use Philips
components, and I suppose it might just be a bad part,
but...before I go putting another one in there, I thought I would check to see
if anyone else had this happen before. Thanks in
advance, John.
