I needed a 24C04 for a GoVideo dual deck vcr but I was out of them. I found
24C01s in tv boards in the boneyard. I pulled some of them and the third
one I tried worked fine. The first two had something in their program that
interfered with the units operation. Once the unit was working I was able to
load the eprom and everything worked OK even though it was a 24C01.
Some of the 24C04s had prices as low as 97 cents in single quantities but I
didnt want to wait so I started experimenting.
