Subject: [TechAssist] Kenwood Car Radio - Weird Audio Problem

I just spent two hours trying to troubleshoot what should have been
obvious. The problem seemed like a bad ground or power problem because
every time the rig doors are slammed shut or if the rig was on the road
(mechanical vibrations) the speakers would rumble (not cut out), it sort
of sounds like there isn't enough power and the amp modules inside the
deck were breaking down but not completely. This isn't the case though.
I tried a different power source from the cigarette lighter, checked the
ground, I even smacked the deck, but the only time the problem occurs is
when doors are slammed hard or if we were on the road. The DC power is
stable, but then again I was monitoring this with my digital meter
(should try my analog). I don't know what to make of this problem and I
invite any opinions on what to check for. The rig returns from Vancouver
in 10 days, I'm going to try another deck but I don't believe this is
the problem. Main power to the deck runs from the fuse panel, the other
"power on" wire to the deck runs from the accessories switch off the
ignition key. I've installed numerous car radios over the years and I
don't know what to make of this problem.

Sorry for the long message. But I wanted to be clear about the symptom.

Thanks.
