[TechAssist] Re: Job opening

I don't hold any mis-givings towards the guys that work for these Companies.
The so-called Tech's. As we all know...not being familiar with a
product...especially in the customers home makes for some bad vibes.

I don't know how we continue to keep having this discussion go back to this
email address, but I imagine it involves most of us, to some aspect.

I just get pixxed, that these Box Companies keep pushing their "extended
warranty" and get a good buck for it..which might have been good odds for
them 6 or 7 years ago...because most products seemed to be pretty reliable.
Now with Light Engines...Lamps burning out...this and that...they just don't
have the Tech's to cover it. Every complaint needs to be checked
out...especially if you bought that extended warranty. Even though it may be
a problem with not understanding the product...if you have a perceived
problem, and you bought that extended warranty...You Want Attention.
I now have two sets. DLP's, I won't mention the Manufacturer, but I
have 2 lamps sitting here....and customer can expect a replacement in 10
weeks. Now...if I paid 3K for a set...and 3 months later needed to wait 10
weeks for a lousy lamp (at $550 I guess it's not fair to attach the word
"lousy").

But so it goes...
Bottom line is...if you work for Best Buy or any other Box Company...even
though they give you that Vehicle for personal use...allow you to plan your
own workday....Company discounts....etc..etc...when it comes right down to
it...you are on the firing line with Customer. So....you might as well do it
for yourself...that way..what you sew is what you reap. If you fail...YOU
fail.

Again...it depends on location...if you are in an area..with lots of
completion with independents...sure..take a chance.
Maybe better now than 5 years down the road...especially if you are in
that 35 to 40 range.

I'm sure most of us "Old Guys" feel quite comfortable riding out the storm.
I have no pity for these Box Stores making a profit on the product, and also
wanting to make it on the Service.
