Thanks, I get the jist of it, I will play around with various yokes to
fimiliarize myself with the process. Question: Should I be ringing the coil
with a sine wave or would a square wave provide similar results.

David, look in the back of the scope , there should be a connection for
ringing. What to look for are multiple patterns of curved lines that taper
off to none. Any coil with shorted turns will give only a straight line or 2
or 3 curved distorted lines. This is hard to explain, U need to play with
several different coils and observe the results til U become familiar with
them.

OK, in a nut shell, how do you ring a yoke and what am I looking for? All I
have for a oscillator source is my scope calibration output (1Khz & 1Mhz).
