Art, Installing a hard drive that has already been configured with W2K into another system (motherboard) is not recommended. Sometimes you get lucky and all the driver rearranging is successful however most of the time you end up with a system that is unstable. Your best bet is to backup all your personal data, fdisk/format the drive, and start from scratch. This is the only option once things get that screwed up. Think about all that time you already spent trying to get things working as they were on the other motherboard. Usually there are drivers to rearrange etc but this time I'm stuck. The original motherboard is an ASUS AB-AX5 with a 200Mhz processor, Scsi adapter (currently only going to a CD-ROM and scanner), 1 IDE hard drive, 1 IDE CD-ROM, 1 IDE Zip Disk, floppy, 192Mb memory. I installed a new Intel D845GEBV2 motherboard with a 1.8Mhz processor, 512Mb memory. This board has audio, LAN, and video built in. The machine starts to boot off the hard drive (the operating system is Windows 2000) with the bar that advances across the bottom, and then the box that says windows is starting up, but the machine crashes with a "STOP" error saying "boot device is inaccessible". There is no help for this on the Intel web site. I stripped everything out of the machine except for the hard disk, keyboard and mouse, but no change. I put the old motherboard back, and can see that the video drivers and Lan drivers had been modified. I'm guessing its getting to an area where it's trying to do something with the IDE drivers and is locking up there. Can someone recommend a reasonable sequence of removing/installing drivers, or of starting up after the upgrade that will get things running? Thanks very much, Art Art Bevilacqua Essex Radio and TV 40 Main Street Essex, MA 01929 ------------------------------------------ Submit A Repair Tip For Everyone Here: http://www.tech-assist.org/secure/tip/main.html ------------------------------------------ To REMOVE your email address, click here: http://www.tech-assist.org/unsubb.html To CHANGE your email address, click here: http://www.techassist.net/forms/change.html ------------------------------------------ Submit A Repair Tip For Everyone Here: http://www.tech-assist.org/secure/tip/main.html ------------------------------------------ To REMOVE your email address, click here: http://www.tech-assist.org/unsubb.html To CHANGE your email address, click here: http://www.techassist.net/forms/change.html
