Kevin, 5 seconds sounds like the reel sensor to me, however these machines can be quirky. It is possible that cleaning the mode switch isn't good enough and a new one is needed- I've had that happen but not sure it was similar model. Also check the 3 pin regulators, 7805, 7806, 7809 whatever is in the circuit. Center LED is another possiblity.
