[TechAssist] CDN Update !Re: Estimate charges - was 19" portables

ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER ABOUT OUR 15% TAX. Both the USA and
CANADA have a manufacturers tax or Federal Sales tax. Before 1990 our "FST"
was hidden because it was paid at Manufacturer level, the final retail
customer never saw it, it was already buried in the final price. In 1990,
the CDN gov't decided to remove the tax at the Manuf level and add it at
point of sale. Most of the public was aghast at the "NEW" tax. They forgot
two very important points: The tax was always there before, and it was
anywhere from 12%-14% (double), not 7% as it is now. The old FST is now
called the GST (Goods and Services Tax). All provinces set their own PST
(Provincial sales tax) I think Ontario's is 8% , add the 7% GST (Same coast
to coast) and you get a seemingly whopping 15%. You have to know where it is
being sent to to make a fair assessment.
