Ditto here. If you look at my "political compass" numbers, I'm basically
as Libertarian as I'm Liberal. But what you don't see -- I'd easily vote
for a Libertarian Conservative over a Liberal Authoritarian... any day
of the week (well, assuming similar degrees of "what I don't like" in
the mix).

Years back, in arguments here with Gary and perhaps a few others, I
pointed out that I at last had respect for the Old-School Republican
platform. If not necessarily done in practice, they tended to be
fiscally Conservative and politically Libertarian. I was a big supporter
of Clinton, who was certainly at least a fiscal Centrist (certainly the
only guy to balance the budget in my voting life), and at least
effectively on the side of personal freedoms, if not necessarily going
as far as I'd go.

Of course, the problem today is that so many, both Democrats and
old-school Republicans, have soiled what good intentions they might have
had by losing all backbone against the Neocons. I could probably vote
for some of these guys, but only effectively as a vote against their
far-wore counterparts. I've been actively supporting a few locals who
had the balls to actually vote their mind, and will continue to do so,
as an Independent, Liberal, and Libertarian... terms I wear with pride.
