It really is a good read.  I made it through a couple of chapters.  The 
acknowlegment of sources is a way to look even deeper: movies, media, etc...

  Actually, it's interesting for me to see the thesis in print.  The author 
interviewed members of the Austin Air Coolers at one of our meetings back in 
2001.  AAC is mentioned on page 171 of the thesis.
