Actually if you are doing a Westy you don't want 5X5. The left side is one long piece and if I ever get around to the 66 Westy I am going to be looking for some 4X8 1/8" birch.

Not sure exactly what wood you are talking about. If you mean the wood in the pop top Westy's for the headliner and side panels; it is 1/8" birch veneer. Available at "some" lumber yards in 5'X5' panels, apparently the odd size has something to do with what cabinet builders want and the fact that it is relatively expensive.
