Yeah...I don't like giving bad news. But don't trust my word on it
I'm
just a kid. I just know what my dad said, and what the "How to Keep
your VW Alive" book says in the "How to Buy a VW" section. He
says to
steer clear of a VW whose gear pops out, as it usually means a tranny
overhaul. Also, I've heard it can be a "linkage" problem. My bus
pops
out of third very rarely...but it happens. Trannys are so complexed
though...wish I could help.

I'm guessing tranny. I'm also guessing that this could be an expensive
problem :( sorry man. When I bought my bus my dad told me to make
DOUBLE sure that it never popped out of any gears when driving or we'd
be in "big trouble".

So I'm driving the 72 today and it pops out of 4th gear, that's never
happened before. So i stopped by the shop and discovered that i was
very low on tranny fluid, we refilled it and on my way home i had to
hold the shifter in 4th so it wouldn't pop out, i could still feel it
trying to pop out and sounded like it was scrapping the gears. I pulled
off the highway and drove the back roads in 3rd to get home.
What's the deal?
Is my transmission going out? Clutch?
thanks,
jeff
