i just thought of something on your 3rd situation. now this is from
experience. my 77, the "fabubus" if you will, would not go into 3rd either.
i adjusted i replaced the coupler i tweeked i kicked i screamed but i never
got third. well finally i pulled the stick out of the floor to look and see
if something was binding. well the choir sang alleluea when i discovered
that the damn reverse block off plate (the thingy that keeps you from
slamming it in reverse when driving down the road) was installed backwards.
i flipped that puppy around and TA-DA!!!!!!! all gears worked perfectly.
so my suggestion to you is to check that plate.
just check it and see, you never know.
