Just thought I'd put in my two cents,
I don't know if a bug's ignition wiring is the same as a bus. I had trouble 
with my bus getting enough volts to the starter. It turned out that my 
headlight switch was failing. (it eventually burned up) In a splitty bus, 
the wiring for the ignition actually runs through the head light switch.
