Yes. In that test, they filled the rear with sand bags to max capacity. Someone on the Vanagon list knew how much - it was a lot. And then basically drive the Vanagon into a flat concrete wall with 2000 pounds or more of sand pushing you from behind. It is impressive.
There was someone in LA about ~5 years ago who was not paying attention and drove their Bay Window into the back of a Dump Truck doing about 30 or so. Not as bad, but you can imagine.
