Right on! This is what I keep telling my wife. She has never been in a running VW. They just don't want to start for her I guess. However, she picks her late 60's Sear's Spaceliner bicycle for neighborhood cruises over her new fancy bells and whistles mountain bike with all the gears. It's the same sort of feeling. When I lived in Fayetteville, I did a lot more bike riding(friendlier streets). When I rode my 67 Flying O Express, the whole day had a totally different feel. I college, after big tests, I would just ride around to calm my nerves. Driving in my VW's has the same feeling. When I was 15 and learning to drive, my dad and I would get some chicken strips and just drive for hours in a stock 70 bug. I think I'll pull out the old bikes at lunch today. sammie smith <bugcollections@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Peter: Got the patina 66 Westy out the other day for some attention to detail in preparation for the trip to Bulli Gras. Did a few things like LUBE THE FRONT SUSPENSION, but best part drove it around for awhile just to give it some road test. DRIVING an original VW like this is like taking 40 years off of your life. Sort of like relaxing and listening to 50s/60s music. And no disrespect intended, but it ain't the same thing driving a slammed big engine cal-look rat rod; I know, I have some of those too. So Peter is 100% correct, get that thing out and drive it. Heck, I bet Peter loved that drive so much the price of the DC just doubled. It's been a while since I've done this, and ohhhhhh did it bring back driving my '62 every day for 5 1/2 years. I'll be doing this more often now with whichever Bus.
