Subject: [tabi] barcode scanning

Hi all,

If you're thinking of buying a barcode scanner for your pc (around $150) or
using an I-Phone with a scanning app, here's a response from an assistive
technology company, when I asked them the question if scanning using an
I-Phone was the same as using a barcode scanner:

Chip,
Thank you for contacting us.
The iPhone bar code apps use the camera for bar code recognition. In our
testing, these apps are not nearly as efficient or quick at recognizing bar codes as our quantum scanner. With the apps, the user must be quite precise
with lining up the code with the camera. Our laser scanner is much more
forgiving with this process.
If you have further questions, please let me know.

Best regards,
Matt McCubbin
