Chris - No one is quite sure what will happen if this were to come to pass.
Advocates are gearing up to keep it from happening as the fear is services
would be less specialized or specific to blindness. Certainly any
bureaucracy that is not DBS will by definition understand the needs of
people who are blind far less than DBS.

However, because of the nation-wide standards that are in place and
accreditation procedures, wherever VI/blind services end up, it is likely
the governing body would still need to contract with agencies
like Lighthouses across the state. How much more difficult it would be for
Lighthouses to make the bureaucrats at APD, VR, etc understand the needs is
another matter. Also, there is always the risk of budget cuts to client
services, among many other issues.

FCB, NFB, FAASB and others will be working together to fight this off - and
it is highly likely that it won't happen. Especially if everyone who hears
of this writes letters & emails asking that it not happen.
