Subject: FW: Government Benefit Paper Checks to be Replaced by Mandatory EFT
Payments or Through Enrollment in the Direct Express Debit MasterCard
Program - Deadline March 1, 2013:

FYI:

ALERT: Government Benefit Paper Checks to be Replaced by Mandatory
Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) Payments or Through Enrollment in the Direct
Express Debit MasterCard Program - Deadline March 1, 2013

On December 22, 2010, the U.S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury),
Financial Management Service (FMS) issued a
<http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2010-12-22/pdf/2010-32117.pdf> final rule
mandating electronic funds transfer (EFT) payments to federal beneficiary
recipients instead of paper checks. This change to electronic payments is to
be completed by March 1, 2013. Individuals receiving government benefits
will be required to select between Direct Deposit to a bank or savings
account or payment via a Treasury issued debit card through a Direct Express
MasterCard program.

In addition, individuals who apply for new benefits must also select an
electronic payment option at the time they sign up for benefits. They may
choose to receive payment via Direct Deposit into a checking or savings
account at a financial institution or payment via a Treasury issued debit
card through a Direct Express MasterCard program. Click
<http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2010-12-22/pdf/2010-32117.pdf> here to
review the final rule that also has information on exceptions and waivers.

The Go DirectR campaign is sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Treasury
and the Federal Reserve Banks. Before choosing, you should always carefully
consider the pros and cons by finding out about costs of using
checking/savings accounts versus the cost associated with a Treasury issued
debit card through a Direct Express MasterCard program. For more
