[studiorecorder] Question about converting WMA files

I have a new Olympus DS40 and know it was discussed at length on this list
before.

What I'd like to do is edit the recordings it makes with studio recorder.

I am assuming I need to convert the WMA files to wav and edit those, because
converting to MP3 would introduce more loss.

What software have others on this list found to be the most straightforward?
If you google for converters, you will find hundreds of programs which claim
to convert from WMA to WAV. I don't want to test them out and clog up my
registry with unnecessary stuff. I am also wary of downloading spyware. I
also would prefer the program to be command line or speech friendly.

Someone a few months back recommended CDEX, which I already use for ripping.
When I ask it to convert, it complains that some Windows media DLL is
missing though Windows Media player 10 plays audio fine and synchronizes
with the player fine as well. I can post the exact error message, but that's
geting a little off-topic.
Any thoughts?
