Trailer and truck can be made available for moving materials if that suits.
Only have limited time slots to help but will help as much as poss if and
when you have times.
I have wood benches 2/3jigsaws, small power saw, planer all can be
used, also a continuous belt sander

Job number one is most pressing and must start asap.
1. Two sets of plywood boat stands need to be built.They will be copies of
the ones in the work shop.

Two large pieces of cardboard to stencil templates from the existing stands
Graeme is getting plywood.

2.Laminated Oar build
This is a bit experimental but the plans are good and we have enough wood
to fail, re-evaluate and succeed. We should manage success at the first
attempt though. I intend to make solid laminated oars using straight
grained spruce backed with ash for stiffness . The top and bottom surfaces
of the stave will have a rounded profile routered groove, 5mm deep down 2/3
of the oar. This should have a similar effect to having a hollow oar in
terms of strengthening the stave by increasing the wall area whilst
reducing weight but without the technical effort of building hollow ones.
The spruce should be 40% less dense [heavy] the the Douglas Fir we have
used so far. If we are happy with the results we can make a larger number
of stave up, two per session. The blades will be ply wood, either morticed
or scarfed.
The requirements are
Four people to plane glue and clamp the staves. Graeme and I are two of
them and the other two need to be fairly handy wood workers too.The
restricted number is down to the number of clamps available .
Electric and manual planes
Normal carpentry gear
We have clamps
Parcel tape
We have glue and woods
Router
9mm ply for blades not yet sourced.
Firstly though we need help trailering the wood to get it cut into 65mm
planks and bringing it back to the workshop. I will contact my friend with
the bench saw in his workshop to confirm he is able to cut the planks and
if all is good, when we can get it to him.
Sanders and painters to finish the oars.
The two jobs are independent of each other and can be done simultaneously
in the work shop. We could do with starting these next week.
