**Ronald Reagan played the part of Gipp in the 1940 film /Knute
Rockne: All American/. The screenplay has the line:
And the last thing he said to me, "Rock," he said, "sometime when
the team is up against it and the breaks are beating the boys,
tell them to go out there with all they've got and win just one for
the Gipper.
Reagan was given the nickname Gipper, which lasted throughout
his life. Reagan later used the quotation when seeking election as US
president.

*Public funds for public schools!*
For decades, Americans United has worked to support that principle –
taxpayer dollars should go only to public schools that welcome /all/
students, not sectarian institutions that serve only children with the
“right” religion.
Earlier this year, Nevada legislators passed the broadest voucher
program in the nation, a scheme that would have done incalculable damage
to the public school system.
*Yesterday, in a case brought by Americans United and allied groups, the
Nevada Supreme Court reaffirmed that funds meant for public schools
can’t be diverted to private institutions.* Nevada’s top court ruled
that the plan clearly violates a section of the state constitution that
says that money raised for public schools must be spent on public
schools. Because of our court victory, the voucher plan has been brought
to a screeching halt.
