Good info. I do remember the Public Health hospitals and thought they were damn
good. They should have been kept open and expanded in my opinion. My uncle, who
spent 40 years at sea, used them and received very good care. Better than a lot
of vets do from the VA now I think.
Didn't know about merch bums getting DD-214s but good for them, though I don't
recall being given any info about that after having sailed into a war zone
during Gulf War 1. (did receive a bonus for carrying ammo though!)
I wasn't challenging Stanley and his DD-214. Just curious having never heard
about it being issued to the merchant mariners before.

By US Congressional action namely a Public Law, WW2 Merchant Mariners serving
at sea in a war zone received credit which appears on DD-214.
They also became eligible for Vet benefits - about 1987 or so and afterwards.
Same for Gulf War.
I suppose also for Korea and Viet Nam, but I am not sure. I know WW2 and Gulf
War.,
It all started in 1987 or so to give the WW2 guys some benefits especially
after US Public Health Hospitals were shut down by Reagan.

I have a Honorable Discharge and it is so stated on my DD-214. But they are two
different things. And an Honorable Discharge has nothing to do with a DD-214
except that it is listed on it.
A DD-214 is NOT an award of any type. It is simply a government document that
verifies your service and type of discharge.

Never said it is an award, it is an Honorable Discharge which entitles one to
all the benefits the government
gives to vets., perhaps it applies to WW2 only? What do you have as an
Honorable Discharge?

A DD-214 is simply a military record. It is not an "award". Of all the years
I spent at sea, I don't recall ever receiving another DD-214, and I was in a
war zone on the LASH Atlantico during the first Gulf War when we were carrying
ammo.
Maybe it was different in WW2? Just curious.

1. In my book, no one can call themselves a 100% American if they
don't live in America, therefore RR is merely a 99% American who lives in the
safest country he could find which doesn't even have an Army, Navy,
Airforce, etc and therefore not a target for being nuked.
2. In my book, RR should apply for Costa Rico citizenship and become a dual
citizen or even a full Costa Ricon citizen and be totally safe..
3. Since RR and Armstrong and others of his ilk are preaching that the USA is
doomed to an inevitable economic collapse it would be smart to
change citizenship while there is still time.. Am I logical or not?
4. It wouldn't bother me in the least to see the Jew demonizer, no gas chamber
except for lice, holocaust denier, etc become a Cost Rico citizen.
5. As a group we are extremely unimportant, the President and his staff, our
Legislators who represent us, reporters for the news media, etc
don't give a crap about our views and almost none of us even bother to
communicate with those who represent us or even Letters To The
Editor except occasionally me who also ran twice to be a USA
Representative. Basicly we are a semi secret group of no importance

effective as tilting against windmills and is not going to get you the
coveted DD-214 or any other award.
7. Given the circumstances of the Golan Heights and the warning to the Liberty
to change course or it will be attacked and if the matter were
reversed American and every other General would have ordered the attack.
That is my humble opinion and I admit to be a simple non
military citizen.
