Trouble in Toyland
Today's site, from the Public Interest Research Group, offers its annual report
focusing on the safety of toys available in the American retail market. Gentle
Subscribers will find this a useful resource to consult when planning their
gift giving for those small children on their lists.

conducted an annual survey of toy safety, which has led to over 150 recalls and
other regulatory actions over the years, and has helped educate the public and
policymakers on the need for continued action to protect the health and

This three part web presentation consists of the U.S. PIRG's overview on toy
safety fundamentals, targeting unacceptable levels of potentially harmful
chemicals, particular objects such as magnets and balloons, and the ubiquitous
toys with small parts which constitute a choking hazard for young children. A
further section -- the organization's press release -- details specific, named
toys and where they are sold, while the third section provides the complete
annual report in PDF, available for download or for viewing online with
additional general information, as well as photos, type of hazard, price, and
where they are sold, for those toys in this year's survey which may pose a
danger.
