Site of the Day for Wednesday, November 30, 2011 PC Decrapifier: Software of the Month With new laptops and desktops arriving during the holiday gift-giving bash, a timely program to note is the unfortunately but aptly named PC Decrapifier. For those who can rise above its title, this highly regarded little application can shave a substantial amount of set-up time for most new computers running Windows. As the price of computers has plummeted, the weight of the fittingly named 'bloatware' has significantly increased. With add-on toolbars from corporations that are household words and from obscure and insidious companies, commercial anti-virus programs almost as irritating as a virus themselves and often as hard to get rid of, along with endless trialware come-ons, the count of unwanted, preinstalled programs chugging in on new computers has provoked consumer annoyance to the eye-rolling level. Designed to simplify and speed up the process of removing detritus from new computers, the PC Decrapifier does an impressive job. As a self-contained utility run from its executable file, with no installation required, this snappy little app can zero in on more than four dozen of the most frequently bundled bloatware programs and quickly remove them. Comforting directions guide the user to run the app after creating restore disks and a restore point, while specific program check boxes must be ticked before the PC Decrapifier can roll into action. Although no computer application is completely foolproof, this one guides even the skittish computer user to a satisfactory result.
