Nobelprize.org
With a nod to the recent controversy surrounding the awarding of this year's
Nobel Prize for Literature, today's site offers the award's own publication.
Gentle Subscribers will discover details about this famous honor, its history,
and the best gloss the foundation can achieve in explaining this year's issues.
"Nobelprize.org is the official web site of the Nobel Prize. Here you will find
information for every Nobel Prize since 1901, including the Nobel Laureates'
biographies, Nobel Lectures, interviews, photos, articles, video clips, press
releases, educational games and more." - from the website
Although the award of the Nobel Peace Prize receives the lion's share of
publicity, since it is frequently colored with the most dire of circumstances,
the prizes in Science and Medicine may be the most prestigious within those
disciplines and for the general public. The homepage currently highlights the
women who have received the award, with a special emphasis on the outstanding
figure of Marie Curie, while another showcases Peace Prize winner Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr.'s 1964 award. Information on Alfred Nobel, his life and work,
and how the awards came into being is also provided. Straightforward Nobel
facts cover a list of all 923 winners -- people and organizations, a separate
list of all female recipients, and a further one of all winners by age. An
additional feature includes a number of Educational Games.
