Gentle Subscribers will find this extensive compilation of underwater images to be a noteworthy resource. The National Marine Sanctuaries Media Library is an online vault where a comprehensive collection of select video clips and high-resolution still images from America's underwater treasures are securely stored and available for searchable access and download ... [with] education and outreach programs designed to preserve, protect and promote meaningful opportunities for public interaction with the nation's marine sanctuaries. " - from the website This media library showcases a significant collection of dramatic marine photos, with images from a number of named galleries such as Fish Portraits, Ocean Forests, Maritime Heritage, and Human Impact among others, from more than a dozen protected marine areas. These include regions as varied as the Florida Keys and the Channel Islands off the coast of California, and photos as diverse as spiralling humpbacked whales and giant sea kelp fronds. Each image provides information about the photo -- where it was taken, when, and by whom, with additional details as to dimensions and sizes.
