        Jazz Old Time Online

Today's site offers more than 20,000 selections of classic jazz
numbers, dating from early in the twentieth century through to the
years of the Second World War. Gentle Subscribers can access
virtually the entire collection, featuring some of the most famous
names in the history of American jazz, for free online.

from the website

The presentation has collected tunes from such twentieth century jazz
greats as Duke Ellington (1899-1974), Louis Armstrong (1901-1971),
Bix Beiderbecke (1903-1931), Tommy (1903-1956) and Jimmy (1904-1957)
Dorsey, Bessie Smith (1895-1937), Count Basie (1904-1984), Thelonious
Monk (1917-1982), Dizzy Gillespie (1917-1993), and Ella Fitzgerald
(1917-1996) among many others. Not to be overlooked are the
selections from Glen Gray and the Casa Loma Orchestra, which took its
name from a real castle in southern Ontario, famous during World War
II for the glamorous dances held there. Since the streaming audio is
in RealMedia format, either Real Player or the freeware application
Real Alternative can be used to listen to the audio files at the
site. Those who want to download the recordings in MP3 format are
encouraged to pay the small subscription fee.
