Site of the Day for Wednesday, January 23, 2002

        BloodPressure.com

There is almost no end to the number of sites offering so-called medical
expertise on the web but the List cautions its gentle members to be wary of
the sources of all medical advice. Today's website appears to be impeccably
credentialed since Mount Sinai Hospital in New York is known and respected
throughout the world.

"Dr. Thomas Pickering, director of Cardiovascular Behavioral Medicine at
Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, is the founder of bloodpressure.com and
the Hypertension Network. . .The mission of bloodpressure.com [is] to
provide patients with up-to-date and accurate information about their
condition, to help them manage it better and to improve communications
between them and their doctors." - from the website

The site, lucidly written and offering an array of information on virtually
every aspect affecting blood pressure, from diagrams illustrating systolic
and diastolic pressure to guides for healthy eating, even includes a week
of menus complete with recipes from the famous DASH (Dietary Approaches to
Stop Hypertension) diet. There is also a risk assessment chart which is
almost worth the trouble of acquiring the Shockwave player to use it.

If you're trying to keep your blood pressure from reaching the
stratosphere, glide to this comprehensive site for a wealth of reliable
information.
