Society include an excellent collection of design books by some of the most
renowned architects in American history ... AAS welcomes ... [those] interested
in the history of American architecture and we hope this web exhibition serves
to highlight these resources." - from the website
This interesting collection contains design books from architects who set the
standard for America's early buildings. Divided into categories, the exhibit
includes Drawings, Lithographs, and Periodicals, while the Forbes collection
features the photographic record created by Harriette Merrifield Forbes
(1856-1951) who documented 17th and 18th century structures in Massachusetts.
Enlargeable drawings reveal the style of early architects such as Asher
Benjamin, Minard Lafever, and Charles Bullfinch, along with brief accompanying
notes. Additional details on searching the online catalogue are available in
the Search Tips section.
