7 Ways To Make Up Secure Passwords That Are Memorable
Today's site from the helpful folks at MakeUseOf offers useful advice for
dealing with the proliferation of passwords which appear to be a bane of 21st
century life. Gentle Subscribers will find sensible suggestions to get a grip
on a password collection that appears to be growing exponentially.
"Off the top of your head, how many different passwords do you have? If your
answer is 10 or less, you must be using the same password for different
services, which puts you at risk. On the other hand, I counted 146 passwords
stored in my password manager, and that doesn't include ones I use on an
everyday basis and therefore never bothered to add. If something happened to my
password manager, these passwords will be lost. There's no way in the world I'm
going to remember them all." - from the website
Although the article may be of more relevance to those with passwords of the
1234dcba variety, it does provide some clever ways for password creation. By
tying password selection to Favorite Books, Playing Around with Vowels, or
Using Motor Patterns, for example, the approaches at least lend themselves to
slightly more sophisticated results. Although the use of a password manager is
advocated, it should be noted that one of the most popular, LastPass, had been
hacked several years ago. Visitors' comments on the article are generally
thoughtful and worth a review.
