Dear member of Hrvatska liječnička komora,

Some time ago we asked for you participation in a European
study regarding the understanding and readability of the Summary of Product
Characteristics (SmPC), called PIL-S study.

We would like to remind you that you can participate in our
study until JANUARY 4th 2013.

The questionnaire is available online, via the following link:

Bellow you can find more information on this study.

Why a study on Summary of Product Characteristics?
This study, is conducted by the Netherlands Institute for
Health Services Research (NIVEL), as a request the Executive Agency for Health
and Consumers (EAHC), from the European Commission.
The objective of the PIL-S study is to provide the European
Commission with an assessment of the readability and comprehensibility of the
patient information leaflets (PIL) and the summaries of product characteristics
(SmPC) of prescription and non-prescription medicines which is believed to play
an important role in safe and effective use of medication by patients. The
study focuses particularly on older persons, those with low literacy (for the
PIL only), the rational use of medicines and patient safety in the readability,
layout and content of PILs and SmPCs.

Why do we ask for your participation?
A medicine cannot be approved without having its SmPC. It is a
document meant for health care providers. The opinion of health care
representatives is of utmost importance for this study. Therefore, we are
approaching European associations of pharmacists and physicians, as well as
their national associations throughout Europe. Your organization is one of
them. The study provides you with the opportunity to express your opinion on
the SmPC. The results of this study will be used in decision-making processes
on the SmPC at the European level.

                What do we ask you?
We would like to ask you to fill out a questionnaire online.
The questionnaire has its main focus on SmPC but general questions regarding
PILs are asked as well. We estimate that filling out the questionnaire may
take, approximately, 30-45 minutes.

If you need any other information, please do not hesitate
contacting us for further explanations (Susana Monteiro, s.monteiro@xxxxxxxx).

We deeply appreciate your participation in the study. The input
from your organization is vital in shaping the recommendations we will make for
improvements at the EU level!

                Season greetings,
                Liset van Dijk, project leader
                Susana Monteiro, main researcher
