Hello everyone,

This is a last minute push to encourage anyone who can, to attend today?s
educational meeting ,Preparing Your Bees for Winter, at The Hive, at RAF
Cranwell.

Firstly, we are very fortunate to have someone of Andy Wattam, the National
Bee Inspector, and fellow bee keeper, spend such a lengthy time speaking
with us. In his job capacity, he sees a lot of bee husbandry, good and bad,
I am sure, and he can help us go down the road to success with our bees. He
has been extremely helpful to me.

Secondly, this is the most critical time of year for our bees and how they
will start the next season:

· Which varroacide do I use?

· When is the correct time and way to apply it?

· How much honey should I leave?

· Is it going to stay rainy, and will they eat up all their stores
(like last August!!) or will there be a big autumn flow of ivy?

· Will this ivy season carry on till late, or end early with cold
weather?

· Do I feed sugar or Ambrosia?

· What is an inverted sugar?

These are just a few of the questions we need to be pondering now. We love
our bees, at least most of the time, and we need to give them the best
chances for winter success, that we can. I especially hope all new bee
keepers plan to attend!!

I am attaching 3 files on Thymovar which Andy will be discussing today.

Thirdly, I encourage participation from our entire group, in discussing our
new secretarial role, in a meeting after the talk by Andy. The committee is
meeting earlier to discuss matters, but we need some volunteers, to make a
?lightening? of the secretarial duties work. I have had only one response
regarding volunteers to help in this matter. Let? s all put in a little
effort to make our group great and successful!

                                            Here is a rough itinerary:

1:00 SBKA committee (only) meets

· !:45 - arrive for talk

· 2:00 -3:30/4:00 -Andy Wattam, ?Preparing Your Bees For Winter?

· Refreshments/raffle after talk

· Approx. 4:15-4:30 SBKA only, meets for updates on secretarial
update, volunteers needed, etc.

· Finish by 5:30 at latest, hopefully.

A big thank you to Simon for organizing this event, and Jez too, earlier on,
I am sure. You don?t need ID or to go to the guard gate. Again the post code
is: NG348HB.

Don?t forget raffle prizes and ££ to buy them, to help our treasury!

See you there!!

Carole Smith
