Hello list, I thought I'd share a toy I'd originally put together for myself. Here's a build of the new Firefox. This is "Aurora", as per Mozilla's naming rules, but built from the Firefox 6 (mozilla-release) tarball using mostly the same options and procedure as x86. http://www.splack.org/~jason/projects/slackintosh/firefox6-for-current-2010.10/ To run Aurora, you'll need at minimum upgrades to cairo and pixman. These are included alongside the aurora tgz. To rebuild, you'll additionally need wireless-tools, libnotify, and dbus-glib. You will need to be running a 2.6.x kernel due to a funky version number detection bug in the Firefox NSS library. My build uses the -mcpu=750 switch, since my reference machine is an OldWorld Beige G3, and it needs all the help it can get. If you're on a newer machine, it's no problem for you since your processor can run 750 code. If you're on an older machine, well, you already know how to recompile. ;-) Subjectively, this build feels very good. In-page navigation speed feels on-par with Slackintosh's build of 2.0.0.14. However, the new 6.0 code dramatically improves on Javascript performance, making AJAX heavy sites usable again. Page rendering and layout is also better, so article text won't overlap sidebars in Wikipedia, for example. Cheers!
