March it in your diaries: Big news for April!

We're trying something new. To give our many Sisters who are unable to attend
the Saturday monthly meeting, or who are looking for something else in our
Sisters in Crime group, On Wednesday April 22, (proposed 6pm) we will hold a
get-together in one of the upper-level rooms at the Plough Inn at South Bank.
Sisters (and Brothers-in-Law) are invited to come along to meet with other
like-minded criminal minds, or chat over coffee and cake, or share a wine and
cheese platter while discussing the serial poisoner VR, or promote their latest
novel, or join in a fun writing game or two - or whatever you'd like to do for
this proposed bimonthly mid-week evening alternative to the Saturday monthly
meetings.

Watch this space for more details!

Proposed beta reading group

As it's often so hard for us as authors to see the flaws in our work, how about
we form a beta reading group of people writing the same genre? A beta reader
would not edit or proofread your work but rather read it to check for flow,
consistency, reader interest, character development, plot development etc. The
idea is not to be harsh or discouraging in your critique, but rather to be
encouraging to your fellow writer while picking out errors that might mar an
otherwise excellent book. The typical report will only be one to two pages long
and the reading should not take more than a few weeks, if that. Of course, if
you notice typos or clichés or missing words, you could point these out, but
the idea of the beta reader is not to do the grunt work. If anyone is
interested, please contact Kathy Stewart at kathystewart640@xxxxxxxxx.
