Dancing Dots owns the Lime notation software. That means that with each
successive release, Lime will only get more accessible since accessibility
for visually impaired musicians is not just important to us, it is critical.
We are all far too familiar with mainstream products that run very well with
a particular set of scripts until a subsequent release comes out and it
breaks most or all of that accessibility. That situation will never occur
with Lime and Lime Aloud.
Dancing Dots introduced our "talking score" feature called Lime Aloud back
in 2002 and we continue to improve it. We use scripting when necessary but
we always try to make the desired change in the Lime notation editor first.
That is, we are not limited to writing scripts that run on the surface of
someone else's notation editor. We can alter the source programming code of
our scoring program directly to benefit blind musicians like us.
You can run Lime and Lime Aloud as a stand-alone combination we call Lime
Aloud. Or you can include a license for our GoodFeel Braille Music
Translator to add braille music output to the mix. GoodFeel is integrated
with Lime so you can see the braille music track on your display as you move
through the score or play it back in tempo.
We are currently shipping a pre-release version that has a vastly improved
MusicXML import function and newly improved scripts for JAWS which are
excellent. You may evaluate our accessible music notation software for 15

over Tandem to walk you through the process of reading and writing scores
with Lime and the Lime Aloud scripts.
I invite you to export a score from Sibelius to MusicXML, import it into
Lime, and print it out for a trusted sighted assistant to review. Over the
years, I have composed and arranged a fair amount of music and printed it
from Lime for sighted musicians to read. Sighted players have had very few
problems reading those scores and most of the few problems encountered were
remedied independently by me by using Lime's Systems dialog to reformat my
score to have fewer or greater measures per system or systems per page. At
times, you will need assistance from a sighted helper to drag certain
annotations around the screen to improve the look of your score such as a
situation where a dynamic mark may partially occlude part of the text of a
lyric. You even have the option to export from Lime to MusicXML and import
results into Sibelius to see if their magnetic feature for score elements
improves the look of your score automatically.
