[SI-LIST] Using Eye diagram for finding setup and hold time

Hello Experts,
Is it safe to use eye diagrams to find setup and hold time between clock and 
data?
I am not very sure because I think the minimum value of setup/hold time which 
we get may not be the actual case as in the eye diagram we do not know which 
clock signal correspond to which data signal.
Can this method be safely used to find out the exact setup/hold time values or 
there are some shortcomings of this method?
