The most rational course of action is to select an existing standard. You did
not state a data rate (other than multi-GHz), so no specific recommendation is
possible. You can't AC couple unless your coding has a zero at DC and you
reinsert Vcm, or if you use some clever strategy to perform DC restoration
(typically by referencing a bit of known polarity based on timing). Take a
look at GHz rate serdes chips and other examples to understand the proven ways
of handling the issues of interest. There are lots of app notes and reference
designs available.

Subject: [SI-LIST] AC or DC Coupling Selection

Hi All
Could anyone put some light on what criteria should be used to decide for a
serial interface that 1. It should use AC or DC coupling 2. How to decide the
common mode voltage.
3. how much should be the difference between Vcm of Tx and Rx. What criteria
determines this difference in multi GHz range.

Thanks
Ajay
