Amazing if we can pinpoint one or two German Shepherd Dogs with a specific spot
of white on
their chest. In other words....not a whole lot of them don't!! <G>
I can tell you specifically that the 1997 Grand Victor had a white spot on his
chest ......and he was
a Bi Color that carried the solid black factor.
Same with the 2004 Grand Victor and double Grand son of the his.....almost a bi
color and he
STILL carries the black factor.
Basically......almost every single litter has several puppies with white spots
or patches or blazes
on their chest.......and they end up blending in with the markings.
Occasionally as on a bi color
or black or sable they don't blend in.....they just hang out there for the
whole world to see........<G>
It is almost a Breed characteristic at this point. It is not an issue
It is hardly a big worry unless you start getting white feet......then white up
the legs....and HUGE
white blazes on the chest and some on the face......THEN I would sit up and
take notice.....

1953 GV had white on chest. 1967 GV had white on chest. I don't think they
were closely related. Perhaps line-bred on Horand??

As I recall, the Collies had no white on their chests until Lassie. Then
they started to accept it. I don't know if they changed their standard, but
now
if a Collie is marked with a white chest, no one seem to mind.

Color is the least of the things I would judge on, if the color is rich. I
do prefer that it not come out of a bottle, but then again, I am very fussy
about that stuff, losing my own personal hair color.

I don't seem to find that light gray hair makes me any less able to do my
job. Of course, at times it helps with these new young judges, who think
gray
  hair means I know something.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.
