I was reading in a newsletter from the Cummings School of Vererinary Medicine 
at Tufts University that "One study has demonstrated an association between 
feeding from elevated food bowls and bloat. Putting food and water bowls at 
floor level may reduce the risk of the disease." It is quite a lengthy article.
I was told right from the begining that my dogs should have raised bowls and 
they have lovely, fancy tables that most of my friends laugh at when they see 
them eating.

How do you folks on the list feed your dogs.

  YVONNE:    I believe this was a conclusion reached by Dr. Glickman... when 
he did 'research' on Bloat/Torsion Gastric for the Purdue U. 
His  research involved 2500 dogs over a 5 year period I believe...However 
there wasn't a German Shepherd in the entire research as I understand it... .. 
 His  idea of not feeding from raised bowls, food or water, was only because 
the researchers felt perhaps they would 'gulp' more air while eating with 
their heads up and then build gas in their stomachs... 
 He did finally conclude that any dog  or bitch who had a first generation 
relative who had bloated, with or without torsion, (Gastric), should NOT be 
used 
for breeding...as he felt there was a  genetic link...a Familial 
predispostion to B/T.. 
So, If you have dogs who do NOT  come from a line  genetically, predisposed 
to Bloat/Torsion, in my personal opinion, you could feed them anything at 
anytime from any elevation and you won't have a problem...
  If they are predisposed genetically, to B/T ,you could handfeed them every 
meal and  all water carefully measured by hand every single meal, and  they 
would still Bloat before your very eyes, if they are genetically predisposed to
