After reading those few posts... i thought i would post some questions. please feel free to email privately if you wish :) What is so difficult about a judge learning the standard, and judging accordingly? Why is it they have to "like" the dog? What does their "style" have to do with the standard? These are genuine questions.. i am just wondering if a judge can "like" a dog that "isnt" close to the standard... and what gives them the right to place the dog they "like" over a dog that is of the standard? Is it really that hard to judge a dog according to the standard? Not even close to being out in the ring to evaluate someone else dogs, i am focusing on what i am doing with my own right now. Are there classes judges have to take in order to become and AKC judge? What are the requirements to become and AKC Judge? I know when i worked the ambulance as an IV tech we had to go to classes throughout the year to refamiliarize ourselves with the protocols and recertify... just wondering if judges had to do that.. would be a great idea! Again i refer to this Breed Evaluation we had... the two judges were similar in their judging.. and didnt confer at all... they judged according to the standard... and funny thing is.... they are two different people but they both followed the AKC standard. what was neat also, the two judges judged my german female, that i feel is more north american (thus the reason i bought her) to the AKC standard and they both critiqued her almost identical according to the standard and did excellent. i think if other judges studied/knew the standard and judged her, they would have found her to be pretty much what these judges found her to be. When we went in for group, she placed first out of 3 females in this class. It had nothing to do with her being German and the one judge probably seeing this.. because i had other entries that morning that were german german that were at the end of the group but not because they were bad dogs just compared to the other dogs were not as nicely put together to the standard, yet. and may not ever. The other ones in the group deserved to be where they were. I am not blind :) i am probably my own worse critique when it comes to the few litters i bred/co bred. Sorry so long, i just get excited and love to learn about all this and i feel i have a right to express an interest for the health and future of my dogs involved in the future of the breed :) Best Regards, Dawnmarie ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2005.
