When my shepherds stop and are focused on something, they stand in a natural way with one rear leg back and hock perpendicular to the ground and the other slightly forward with the hock nearly on the ground. When my little Chinese Crested PowderPuff stops and focuses on something, his hind legs are slightly back always together and the hocks are perpendicular to the ground. This seems to be natural to him. It would be interesting to watch various breeds trotting and then stopping and see how they stand.
