I couldn't find this in a timely way the other day when Jenn asked.........but 
this tip for tick removal comes from the Guiding Eyes people.....   apply a 
glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball and swab the tick for 15-20 seconds...the 
tick will back out onto the cotton ball and then you just dispose of the ball 
and the tick.........
  i guess it won't work on ticks down in the ears, but everywhere else it 
should be fine!     In the old days we did this with mineral oil...apparently 
it smothers the tick (as does the soap), which is why it backs out!!
