Their 2 year old female shepherd came up lame about three weeks ago. The xray showed bone spurs off the back of her elbow. One is kind of broken looking and the other seems to be hooked. She is a very high energy athletic dog and up till now was fine. the vet said he has never seen anything like it and has sent off the xrays. he said it doesnt look good for her though. My friend Jim is really bummed out about it and I dont want him to make any quick decsions if there is something that can be done about this. I know some things you can just remove the bone piece and the lameness goes away.He hasnt had two good of luck with two previous dogs and he is very close to this one. Please reply if anyone has any experience with this. Holly Woods Holly, there's a lot the orthopedic people can do, all the way up to elbow replacement now, (no kidding, saw a Golden mix in for that at Metropolitan last year!), so his options are going to be limited only by the experts in his neck of the woods and his pocket book. I'd think at the very minimum, they could do what the do for FCP, go in, remove the fragment and smooth out any rough edges.
