Speaking of doubling the wrong dog, once at a specialty in Hawaii (this was back in the 80s, before she lost her mind and moved to central NY) Helen Miller Fisher was judging, and ambred bitches were in, and we did not have an ambred bitch, being shown, just puppies and an open bitch...(back then we werent really all that into doubling handling in Hawaii...hardly anyone did it, and when we did it was more just calling names to get ears and mostly hid, and not really loud, I have been louder at all breed shows here, and if it was done to get them to move out, it usually was timed wrong anyway and hurt more than helped)....anyway, the ring was in an open field at a park surrounded by huge banyan trees, (and yes, it was a beautiful sunny day, about 85 degrees with a gentle cool breeze....like 75% of the days there...sigh!) and we were getting our bitch ready where our crates were set up under one of the trees, and I was grooming and my mom kept peeking from behind the tree to see how far along they were/how much time we had, and some bitch in the ring kept looking at my mom every time she would peak out...someone must have been calling her from a hiding place nearby and she kept thinking my mom was her owner....and Helen kept looking at my mom and giving her the "eye", but my mom did not think she was looking at her and wasnt really paying attention cause we did not have a dog in the ring....apparently Helen had told the bitches handler to stop the doubling, cause it was messing up the bitch, and the next time my mom peeked out, Helen pointed at her and told her to come here...my mom was like "me?" looking behind her, totally clue less, so she went up there and Helen told her this was her last chance, and made her put her hands on the ring rope and told her not to move! My mom was trying to ask her why and tell her we didnt even have a dog in there and was trying to get our own dog ready, but she would have none of it.....so my mom stayed there whil e the bitch went around again, nicely, as no one was calling her, and of course totally ignored my mom, since close up she realized it was not her owner! I dont remember if the bitch won or not, I dont think we did either! The look on my poor mom's face was too funny...she was so embarrassed!
