You bet. It would definitely work for WV but those in different
geographic areas, remember, you may have to do different things:
Nemex II, 2, 3 & 5 weeks
Toltrazuril (coccidia), 4 & 6 weeks <I use the lower dose, only ONE day @
0.08 cc per lb.>
Panacur, will treat giardia (3 days) @ 7 weeks
Puppies leave between 8-9 weeks, those I am growing out have Nemex at 9
and 11 weeks then start HW at 12.
I never used to treat for coccidia and giardia, truthfully coming from a
rural area my vets don't go into freak out mode, knowing they are naturally
occurring parasites, usually dogs are asymtomatic and by 6 months a healthy
dog will have built up resistance. I have never in my life treated an
adult dog for either.
That said, when you send a puppy to a companion home and God forbid there
is coccidia or giardia vets DO go into freak out mode and can get new
owners all worked up....so they leave here free of both to avoid the drama. I
also include printouts for puppy packets because again, naturally occurring,
exist in over 50% of the doggy population at any given time, dogs can pick
up ANYWHERE and an educated buyer is less likely to get upset.
My dogs go onto HW @ 4 months and the only other thing I will treat for if
they catch a bunny is tapes.
An issue you can have is if you overdo killing off the coccidia, other
things like clostridium, also normally occurring, but an overgrowth will cause
loose stools, can then flourish and you need an antibiotic to be rid of
and now you are on the merry-go-round as I call it.
So, I use the minimum and when l am worming, giving puppy shots,
increasing food or changing over to the starter kibble I always include a
sprinkle
of probiotics. And no dairy except what mom produces.

Yes, but I'd want to get to the bottom of soft stools in puppies before
treating w/ tylan. It IS an antibiotic.
I have perfect stools in puppies w/ a routine worming protocol and weaning
onto Royal Canin (Mousse then starter kibble, NO diary and cani otic
probiotic when I changed/increased food).
IMO too many overfeed, over-worm with all manner of things then wonder why
they have an issue.
If I had to do anything beyond my routine I'd be at the vet's before
dosing w/ tylan and I would never, ever EVER use flagyl for a puppy.

I agree with using Tylan for occasional control of diarrhea.
My dogs didn’t do well on Fortiflora, so I changed to Probiotic Joint for
Dogs by Amazing Nutritionals. I have been giving 1 tablet a day for
maintenance and it has been working well. I have reduced the amount I feed
because
they seem to process the food better.
I also give a big spoonful of 100% Pumpkin with each meal to promote
regularity.

Asking the list a question. I have a 10 1/2 yr old male that has
reoccurring diarrhea. He has had his stool checked numerous times, and nothing
shows
up. He has taken Fortiflora, Zypan to put in the good bacteria and still
comes back. He is on Ivomec for his heartworm and have also put him on the
IBS diet to control it. He will be good for about a week then back it
comes. I have put him on Flagyl to stop it, but he cannot live on that. I
have also changed his food to Science Diet for Sensitive stomachs and still
it comes back.
Any thoughts? Would putting him on raw change it.
