As well they should!!!!!!
It usually costs a CRAP-LOAD more to take in, straighten-out, vet and
foster a potential rescue than the small "adoption" fee they might
charge. Does it not? I'd bet most rescues are in the red a lot more
than not.
Do these politicians not understand that people who pay even a small
fee for an animal will tend to take better care of it than if it was
given away to them for free? Hell! I don't even know of any SHELTERS
or humane societies around here where you can get a dog or cat for
free! Every single one of them charges at least a nominal fee --
enough to cover licensing fees, for example -- when adopting an
animal. Many offer low-cost (or free) neutering for little puppies and
kittens adopted from them. Most are always looking for donations of
some sort: if not money, then blankets, newspapers, cleaning supplies
or shelter volunteers to come in and walk, train, bathe or just love
on and socialize the animals.
Rescue isn't free. It's hard work! Damn straight that rescue
organizations should get some sort of "compensation" for what they do!
They fully deserve it!!! And they SHOULDN'T be penalized for it
either!!! GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(
