With all due respect to your opinions and interpretation of the Standard, from
what I have read and interpreted with respect to height, I believe the standard
calls for females to be 22 to 24 inches at the withers and males to be 24 to 26
inches, so with that said anything above 24 inches is not within the standard.
Also I believe there were many pictures missing from the collection that showed
dogs that gave meaning to the terms "pin-heads", "ski-slopes" and
"mish-mashers". There was a time in this period where sex characteristics were
questionable and many times one would have to look below before addressing
someone's male without sounding insulting.
Yes, you can take the term extreme and tone it down but the fact is when you
take too many elements of the standard to the point of "a little" extreme" you
are making changes to the standard, especially when others breed to this and
try to reproduce that which has deviated from the standard.

Ah!! Please, everyone, read the post below from the REAL Norma as it is
very very true and to the point here.
Our splendid GSDs are still and always will be splendid. I feel the same
way, and, like her, do not see gigantic
changes in looks and/or structure in a way that would make us wonder where
our old dogs are. ENJOY!!!
The most correct part of her post is the last sentence, which is not about
the dogs but the people. We DO
need to come up with some ways to improve this, if possible. Norma no L

we have been around for more then 100 years. there were more changes in the
look of the breed in the first
fifty years which is understandable since the breed was developing. i have
been taking pictures of german
shepherd dogs for 50 years and i can show you in picture how little the
appearance of the dog has actually
changed since 1963. we have gone through changes in fashion eg more
extremity less extremity plusher
coats closer coats size differences etc but all of them have been within the
standard. there are dogs on film
from the 57 national who would have gone select today.what we do have now is
less competition and that
is not a good thing.
