Lyn,
     In order to hold performance events you need exhibitors. When Barb
Hahn and I were members of the Det club we pushed for Obed/Rally. Bottom ine
the expenses far exceeded the entry and the conf people resented having to use
their monies to subsidize the obed.

If your club wants to continue to offer conformation shows and the club is not
covering the expenses, then the club needs to hold other events that are "money
makers" so that the excess covers the losses of your shows. Plain and simple
bookkeeping 101. As for the clubs that can't seem to see past the conformation
ring, they will definitely feel the bite. Conformation is no longer the area
where people are spending their money when it comes to dogs. They want to spend
it on areas that they enjoy doing with their dogs .... where they can have an
enjoyable day� ... win or lose. So if your club continues to have tunnel
vision, your club will soon be a part of the past history instead of creating
the history of the future!Ã?Â
If your club is wondering as to what is available to offer, take a look at
various things the GSDCA offers. Or take that fearful step away from the
conformation ring and go mingle with the "second rate" dog-citizens and see
where and why they are spending their money. And as a word of advise for the
love of the breed.... bite your tongue and leave the attitude at home, it's not
the dog of your preference, it's the money that their owner is willing to spend
that your club is looking for.

That is the reason some of the specialty clubs are not giving shows anyÃ?Â
longer. I know our club quit because we were not getting enough entries to pay
the bills. You cannot continue when you are losing money. I have a feeling
there� will be many more that will go under. Sorry to say.
