it, to have white, long coat, blue & liver all lumped into one package deal
vote will get defeated (I should think and hope) this year... And will be
back to haunt us again next year but in an appropriate (hopefully) format:
with each color/issue as a separate agenda/vote. A vote for coats, a vote
for white, etc as I know everyone gets the picture. I feel that until a
vote is held on each "issue" individually, there will be groups of people
who feel their "cause" was not justly represented and only lost due to the
"others'" cause/s which conflicted with their own cause, and that it was
the fault of all the "causes" linked into one lot/lump vote this year. I am
hoping that after voting time next year, this issue will be put to rest
properly.
And then that will be that and the membership will have spoken and no one
proponent of any issue at hand can call "foul" (as I already see coming)
for not allowing the coat color/ type to stand alone on its own merits (or
faults) for individual vote.
I am just saddened to hear it will be all one vote this year; just seeing
what's coming around the corner when it doesn't pass as a lump.
While we all know I appreciate a beautiful white GSD with black "points"
(skin pigment and dark eyes), and a beautiful long coated GSD in Black and
Tan, and especially in black (and occasionally in white as well), I'd
sooner die than to see, say, a blue or liver pigmented white coat of any
length! YUK. That just defeats the purpose of the beauty of a white dog
"wearing" black points to me.
That's all just my opinion, but I'm pretty sure my other conjecture will
come to pass when this lump vote is defeated. Wouldn't it have been more
cost-effective to the GSDCA to have presented (to the membership) all the
issues as separate votes? Wasn't there any way to ask (or tell even) the
AKC that, we as a parent club want to vote on these said issues as
individual votes-- we meant for it to be separate as that's how it was
submitted? I mean, if they were turned in that way to be separate issues,
how did the AKC go and lump them into one vote- especially seeing that
white is a DQ and long coats are a fault and blue/liver a serious fault- as
they are currently written? I mean, at the very least, it would have been
sensible (at least to me) for the AKC to at least separate the issues as to
how they fall in current standard; giving we members at least 3 different
issues (leaving blue/liver together since they are the "serious fault"
being voted upon for changes? Or were they too worried people wouldn't
understand what they voted for, or maybe they thought we use punch-cards
and "chads" would be a problem in the tabulation room? Obviously being
facetious here <cuz I like it humorous :)> , but the grouping of the 3
fault classes/ 4 ballotable issues into only 1 group vote just wasn't the
solution. It will cause people to vote against the whole thing where
otherwise they may have voted yes on 1, 2, or even 3 of the individual
issues, because they, like myself, couldn't vote "yes" on every
coat/color/skin-coat pigment, not even if one twisted my arm! (Liver
<shudder> I don't even like touching liver as a dog treat (even
freeze-dried). Liver <shudder> and don't like blue in a GSD. A whippet? An
APBT? They look lovely in blue fawn brindle... But a GSD? Nah.)
And we will be re-visiting this whole thing again next year, to the expense
of the GSDCA, again, and at the time consumption of everyone involved,
again, until the issues are fairly & democratically decided upon.
I know most everyone will be happy when these standard change issues are
properly decided upon and resolved by proper voting. So long as we each do
our part and place our vote/s, we made our opinion as "we the membership"
known and counted. Then no one can complain their "cause" wasn't properly
represented or voted upon as a stand alone issue when it doesn't pass.
Conversely, no one can complain if the membership passes something you (or
I) don't like either. Gotta love democracy.

Jen P & her Pack just one vote of many
